How to use vane pumps?, A pump is a machine that increases the pressure of a flowing liquid. There are dozens of different industrial applications a several types of industrial pump designs to fit all the requirements of the sector.
The vane pumps are positive volumetric pumps just like the peristaltic pumps. However, the difference between the two of them is that the former are formed by a rotor, by sliding vanes and a protective casing or cover that joins the first two elements while the peristaltic pumps manufacturer designs a flexible tube fitted inside a circular pump casing where the fluid is contained.
The rotor forms the basis of the vane pumps and allows their oscillation or sliding depending on the shape of the rotor and the cylinder. Other positive displacement pumps are the gear, rotary piston and impeller pumps.
The good thing about positive displacement pumps (vane pumps and peristaltic pumps) is that they offer different advantages compared to other industrial pumps such as a hydraulic pump or an electric pump. Vane pumps are used often in industrial applications. There are different kinds of vane pumps according to the shape of the vanes; therefore, they are classified as follows:
Pallet pumps compensated, fixed pallets, flexible pallets, sliding, oscillating, cam and pallet and finally eccentric shaft.
Within this group, peristaltic pumps could enter despite having no pallets, the reason is that both are volumetric and perform the same function as the pallets. Peristaltic pumps manufacturer designs both of them (vane pump and peristaltic) to work in a wide variety of industrial applications.

Vane pumps are available in a number of vane configurations including swinging vane, sliding vane, rolling vane, flexible vane and external vane. Vane pumps are noted for their dry priming, good suction characteristics over the life of the pump and ease of maintenance.
Vane pumps can usually handle fluid temperatures and differential pressures up to 15 BAR.
One of the major advantages of the vane pump is that the design readily lends itself to become a variable-displacement pump, rather than a fixed-displacement pump such as a gyrator pump or a spur-gear. They have other advantages such as:
- Handles thin liquids at relatively higher pressures
- Can have one seal or stuffing box
- Develops good vacuum
- Compensates for wear through vane extension
- Suited for lower viscosity applications such as solvents
- Can run dry for short periods
Each type of vane pump offers unique advantages. For example, a variable-displacement vane pump is used as an energy-savings device and has been used in many applications, including automotive transmissions.
