After being hit by a bus in Glasgow, a five-year-old child died and a nine-year-old daughter was critically injured.
A First Bus single-decker struck the children at 5.40 p.m. on Tuesday.
The emergency services were called, and paramedics treated the five-year-old on the spot. He was pronounced dead a short time later, however.
The nine-year-old girl was brought to Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children, where her condition was described as serious but stable.
The event occurred on Calder Street in the city, near the intersection with Hickman Street.
The route was closed and reopened around 11.55 p.m.
Sergeant Nicolas Twigg of Police Scotland said, “Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died, and they have asked for privacy at this difficult time for them.”
“Our investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what happened, and we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash and witnessed what happened to contact us.”
“In addition, if you have dashcam footage that could aid our crash investigation, please contact us.”
First Bus stated that it is cooperating with Police Scotland and has initiated an investigation into the occurrence.
“We are devastated to learn of the death of a child involved in yesterday’s incident on Calder Street in Glasgow,” said Duncan Cameron, managing director of First Bus Scotland. Our hearts go out to everyone engaged in this terrible terrible moment.”
