After a shooting on campus on Monday, a faculty member from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill passed away. The next of kin have not been informed of the identify of the faculty member. There were no other recorded injuries. On Tuesday, there will be no University classes.
After the campus was shut down for three hours on Monday afternoon due to a “active assault,” UNC Police issued a “clear alert” and reported that a suspect had been brought into custody. At 16:14, the alarm was turned off. The suspect was detained, according to the university, at about 2:38 pm.
4:33 p.m. Caudill Labs on South Road was the subject of warnings from the university, and police were alerted to gunfire within the structure at 1:12 p.m. To the right of the lab’s north door, there was a sizable bullet hole, and a glass was broken. More than a dozen FBI officers entered the structure at around 5:30 p.m.
Police searched drainage drains and vegetation around the building’s edge using flashlights and K-9 dogs. While police scoured the campus for an armed dangerous person throughout the day, students and university personnel jammed into bathrooms and locked themselves inside the building. The school sent out its first emergency alert at 1:03 p.m.
1:21 p.m. In a tweet from Alert Carolina, it is advised to “continue to seek shelter locally” and it is stated that the institution will provide further details. According to the report at 2:04 PM, there are still “active attacker situations” on campus. It said, “If you are not on campus, stay off campus.” A photo of a “person of interest” who UNC police think is a sought person in the investigation was made public at 2:35 p.m.
