One of Canada’s best violin tap groups, Cindy has developed a reputation for her spectacular performances. Cindy performs in her own distinctive manner that is full of wit, good times, and musical prowess.
Cindy has made it her life’s work to keep traditional music alive. She has done this by instructing for more than 40 years, whether it be in private lessons, at violin and folk camps, or on college campuses, where she has also taught violin and tap. Also, Cindy has performed with symphony orchestras, appeared on national radio and television, had three CDs issued, and participated at significant folk festivals, art exhibitions, and special events in both Canada and the US.
Cindy is an Ottawa Valley native who was raised in a musical household. At the age of six, she began tap dancing, and at the age of twelve, she began violin lessons. Beginning with the influence of her grandfather, Robert Barker, Cindy learned most things on her own. She proudly declared that her career choice was to become a violinist and tap dancer, which she had known since she was a young child.
Cindy took up the violin and tap dancing in an effort to stand out from the crowd. She also created her own distinctive performing style. Thompson traveled the nation as a teenager, captivating judges and spectators alike. Cindy has won multiple violin competitions, including the North American Violin Competition in Shelburne, Ontario, as well as the Canadian Tap Dancing Championships.
