The first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie trailer leaked online less than a month after filming was finished, and fans are overjoyed with what it depicts. The movie, which is based on the well-known horror video game of the same name, follows a security guard who works the night shift at the family entertainment complex where four animatronic mascots known as the “Kill those who stay after midnight” are rumored to reside. Five Nights at Freddy’s has Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard as its leads.
One of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie trailers appears to have leaked online, and it’s a recording of a computer screen, after fans of the source video game waited years for it to hit the big screen. Many Easter eggs in the game including the appearance of YouTuber CoryxKenshin were quickly praised by fans on social media, and others joked that the inventor, Scott Corton, might have leaked the information.
The great anticipation for the movie throughout development may have led Blumhouse to begin marketing, even though some have questioned how the movie trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s was ever made, much less leaked online. During development and production, Cawthon and studio chief Jason Blum, who also co-wrote and produced the adaptation, exchanged frequent updates and were very aware of the importance of ownership.
While Universal, the film’s distributor, showcased the 2023 release at CinemaCon this year, some were anticipating the first Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer to debut there, but that did not happen. It would make sense to present moviegoers with the first official glimpses given that the horror movie is scheduled to premiere in theaters and on Peacock in October, particularly in the summer when Blumhouse will release the similarly eagerly awaited Insidious: Red Door.
It now seems that leaks are more likely to lead to an earlier arrival than the original plan called for, which is probably not going to worry audiences as they get enthusiastic about the adaptation. The original plan called for the publication of a trailer for the first Five Nights at Freddy’s and a sequel for Patrick Wilson. The fact that other studios have continued with their plans to release trailers in the wake of the leak, however, raises the possibility that Blumhouse may eventually do the same.
