It is fundamental to our traditions and way of life. Using innovative cinematic techniques, director Om Raut intended to modernize this epic tale so that it would appeal to today’s young audience. Despite his good intentions, however, Om Raut lacks the expertise to execute his plan.
Om Raut chose to concentrate on a particular section of the Valmiki Ramayana, beginning in the middle of the original account. The film begins with the Soorpanaka story, which takes place during Ram and Sita’s exile, and concludes with Ram and Ravana’s battle. Om Raut intended to zero in on the ‘Yuddhakanda’ (war episode) of the Ramayana.The first section focuses on Raavana’s admirable qualities and his devotion to Lord Shiva, whereas the second section describes Soorpanaka’s nose being severed, Sita’s abduction, Hanuman’s arrival, and Ram’s construction of the Sethu. Consequently, the first half of the film contains an abundance of material. Despite some cheesy CGI and an odd depiction of Ravana’s Lanka, the first half of the film is still watchable because of this.The second half of the film, however, devolves into standard, action-heavy fare reminiscent of the superhero genre in Hollywood. The entire second half is comprised of a lengthy and never-ending battle between Ram and Ravana, devoid of emotional depth. In addition, the visual effects are, to put it lightly, subpar. In many instances, their inferior quality prevents us from fully appreciating the experience.Om Raut, who typically works on VFX-heavy productions such as “Tanhaji,” appears to struggle with this film. Furthermore, the dialogues are ineffective.Telugu audiences have seen better films based on the Mahabharata and Ramayana in the past, as there is a long history of producing fantastic films based on these epics. Consequently, Om Raut’s depiction of Lanka and Ravana falls significantly short. It is puzzling why Raavana walks with a limp in a world that appears to be from a science-fiction movie.While it is permissible to reimagine and present a well-known work in a new way, Om Raut made a grave error by transforming a magnificent epic into a gaudy superhero film devoid of emotion and intriguing content.Prabhas and the music are the film’s high points, while the rest of the film falls short.Overall, “Adipurush” is a distorted and emotionless retelling of the Ramayana. While it provides some moments of theatrical experience, and Prabhas is a good fit as Lord Ram, it fails to provide a devotional atmosphere or a VFX-rich film experience.In conclusion: Hey, Ram
