Alan Harris Death – We hate to notify you of the passing of another one of our veterans. We send our condolences to his family and friends. Alan Harris, who had been ailing for a while, passed away peacefully last night at 8 o’clock. A reticent and private person who has over a number of years taken part in SONT events and trips to France.
He served as a crew member aboard the HMS Woodpecker during the war, but there is a lot more to Alan’s story that will come to light in the years to come. Nevertheless, we should use this day to both honor Alan’s presence in our lives and express our sorrow over losing such a good friend.

They welcomed a boy called Seth as their first child in 1982, and then a girl named Shayne in 1990. Al was an extremely devoted husband and father, particularly to his wife and kids.
He assisted Shayne as a coach in both ice hockey and soccer because he had a keen interest in the youth teams. He even joined Seth for adult ice hockey games in subsequent years. He enjoyed spending time on the lake during the hot months and looked forward to going hunting with Seth during the colder months.
Al, Wanda, and their kids spent many long weekends and summers up north near Fountain, Michigan, camping on Round Lake as a family ritual. Al and Wanda enjoyed taking vacations during their retirement to various US locations in order to escape the Michigan winters.
He was a devoted father who was constantly prepared to lend a helping hand to those in need. Everyone who had the chance to call him a friend will miss him dearly. Al’s family consists of his wife Wanda Harris, his children Seth Harris and Shayne (Daniel) Schiedel, his mother Louise Harris, his siblings Dave Harris, Carol (Bob) Gose, and Morrie Harris, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
