In Ambleside, a town in the center of Lakeland, I am the only Blue Badge guide. Allow me to serve as your “everyday” guide while I show the Lake District to you or your tour group. I’d be delighted to give you a local’s view of the area I call home. My specialties include scenic drives with in-depth discussion, town and country tours, church and farm visits.
I have a wide range of personal interests and volunteer my time at Dove Cottage, the Wordsworth Grasmere Museum, and as a guide for heritage gardens designed by Arts & Crafts Landscape Architects.
From William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, and John Ruskin, to mention a few people who had a beneficial influence on the area, guided tours of active farms in the Lake District. Visit their houses and museums, including Dove Cottage and its converted museum, Hill Top, and Brantwood. I’m also delighted to arrange for you to cruise one or more of the breathtaking lochs, visit castles, learn about the Lake District’s industrial heritage, and sample local cuisine. Additionally, there are guided tours of the historic churches in Ambleside, Hawkshead, Coniston, and Grasmere.
Before deciding to make the Lake District my permanent residence, I was a frequent visitor who spent more than 25 years there. I appreciate the visitor’s wish list because there is still so much to see, discover, and learn. Any season is a good time to explore this stunning environment.
I find the enthusiasm and ingenuity of the farmers to be fascinating, and they provide a variety of intriguing places to visit, such as cheese factories, soap factories that use Jersey creamer milk, and locations where you can meet the fabled Herdwick local breed of sheep. Find out about the magnificent new, traditional, and modern tweed items manufactured from sheepskins from every valley, all while keeping in mind conservation and regenerative agriculture to protect mountain farming for future generations.
