The New Black Wall Street in Atlanta is deeply saddened by the passing of businessman Lecester “Bill” Allen, who died last week at the age of 80. Allen established the Black-owned market space near Stonecrest Mall, as a tribute to the historic Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The family issued the following statement: “Last week, our family experienced a profound sense of sadness, but also gratitude for having had the privilege of being with an extraordinary individual who was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a dedicated advocate for the community. He passed away at the age of 80.” Mr. Lecester “Bill” Allen was a highly respected and influential figure in Stonecrest, GA. He was known for his pioneering spirit and successful business ventures, which inspired many entrepreneurs in Georgia and beyond.
Regarded as “The Wiz” in the local community, Mr. Allen possessed a remarkable ability to perceive opportunities where others only saw challenges. He established numerous platforms to support African American and minority entrepreneurs in building and expanding their businesses, promoting economic self-sufficiency, and fostering community strength. One of his notable achievements includes the establishment of the New Black Wall Street Market in Stonecrest, Georgia. The market aims to revive the essence of the original Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Allen has also established the Allen Entrepreneurial Institute, an organization committed to supporting marginalized communities through the provision of resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities. With his ambitious initiative to rebuild the legacy of the New Black Wall Street and bring economic development to an entire city, he garnered widespread support as the largest commercial landowner in the City of Stonecrest.
His unwavering commitment to the advancement of African American prosperity has been unparalleled. Mr. Allen’s dedication to breaking down barriers and changing economic landscapes has resulted in increased visibility and support for black-owned businesses. His efforts have led to the growth of minority- and women-owned establishments and the contribution of over $100 million to students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.Although we are grieving the loss of our loved one, we are committed to carrying on with the same determination and passion, as his vision is coming to fruition.
