Cathie (Mary Catherine) Henders Death – Regrettably, Cathie Henders met her demise at her residence in Calgary, Alberta, on the morning of her 89th birthday, leaving her beloved family to grieve her departure. The initial cheerful family gathering transformed into a poignant tribute to a life that was lived with grace and beauty. Cathie Werte was born on January 25, 1935, in Windsor, Ontario, to parents Kaye and Gordon. Even in her youth, her exuberant personality, fervor for sports, and musical talents were evident.

She possessed a strong work ethic and exhibited exceptional musical abilities, in addition to her prowess in basketball and tennis. Bea Henders and Dick Henders, who were siblings, were destined to become husband and wife in Arcola, Saskatchewan. The romantic relationship between Cathie and Dick originated from a deep friendship established during their time at Western University in London, Ontario. This connection persisted through written correspondence until their marriage in 1957. For a span of 58 years, they resided in the house they constructed in Estevan, SK, where they raised four children and created cherished memories with their dear ones.

Cathie had a crucial role in the success of Henders Drugs, the family-owned firm. Music was an essential and vital part of Cathie’s existence, profoundly impacting the lives of everyone in her vicinity. Throughout her 35 years of dedicated service as a pianist and choir member, she made a lasting impact on the Estevan United Church community. Aside from her church duties, she diligently and enthusiastically dedicated herself to working at music festivals and other gatherings. The elegance and hospitable nature of her residence mirrored her infectious personality. In 2015, Cathie moved to Calgary to live in close proximity to her sons and their families following the death of Dick.

The great-grandchildren and grandkids recall her exuberant and untroubled outlook on life, as they continue her heritage. Cathie left a lasting impact on all those she encountered, whether through her piano performances or her hosting of gatherings in her home. The offspring of Cathie are Rick (Wendy) and Greg (Debbie) from Calgary, Nancy (Rob) from Whitehorse, and Jo-Ann (Kelly) from Saskatoon. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren and grandkids.

A memorial service for Estevan will take place in St. Paul’s United Church on February 2, 2024, and will be followed by burial at the Arcola cemetery. Instead of floral arrangements, we kindly request a contribution to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
