The pedestrian who died in the October 29th collision on I-95 in New Castle has been named by the Delaware State Police as 49-year-old Damon Phares of Newark, Delaware.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit.
Delaware State Police are looking into a collision that killed a pedestrian in New Castle last night. A Freightliner tractor trailer was operating in the right northbound lane of I-95, north of Churchmans Road, when the collision occurred at around 9 p.m. A person was trying to cross the northbound lanes of I-95 from his disabled vehicle on the left shoulder in order to reach the east side of the road at the same moment. As he crossed the road, the pedestrian got into the Freightliner’s path of passage and was hit by the tractor trailer.
The 49-year-old Newark, Delaware, pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.
Until his family and relatives are informed, his name is being kept confidential. There were no injuries to the Freightliner’s driver, a 52-year-old Milford resident. While the area was cleared and examined, the road was closed for around two and a half hours.
