After a plane crashed into woods in east London, a man was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Six fire engines and 40 firefighters were dispatched to the collision site near Damyns Hall Aerodrome on Aveley Road, Upminster, shortly after lunchtime on Tuesday.
The male, who had “potentially life-changing or life-threatening injuries,” and a lady were carried to the hospital by road and air medical workers, according to police.
“Firefighters worked with partners to free a man and a woman trapped inside a lightweight aircraft in woodland near the aerodrome,” said London Fire Brigade station commander Jeremy Davies.
The Metropolitan Police Service’s MPS Havering tweeted in response to the event, “Despite initial reports of no serious injuries, the man has been taken to hospital with potentially life-changing or life-threatening injuries.”
According to a representative for the London Ambulance Service, “numerous resources were dispatched to the scene, including three ambulances, a medic in a response car, two incident response officers, and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).”
“We treated a man and a woman at the scene and transported them to the hospital,” the statement continued.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) stated it has dispatched a team to the crash scene.
