The outstanding chanteuse Tems and Justin Bieber’s song “Essence” received the “Best Collaboration” award at the 2022 BET Awards, adding to the pile of accolades that Nigerian Afrobeats Superstar Wizkid already seems to have amassed.
Remember that the song had previously been published in two versions, the first of which was on Wizkid’s Grammy-nominated “Made In Lagos” album.
This song was nominated along with “Every Chance I Get” by DJ Khaled Feat and other excellent tracks by well-known musicians. Lil Baby & Lil Durk, Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar’s “Family Ties,” Doja Cat ft. SZA’s “Kiss Me More,” Drake ft. Future & Young Thug’s “Way 2 Sexy,” and Bia ft. Nicki Minaj’s “Whole Lotta Money” (Remix).
While accepting the award, Tems, who was there, expressed his appreciation for the BET Awards by saying:
“THANK YOU, BET… THIS AWARD IS FOR REALLY WIZ, AFRICA, AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT GREAT THING IS HAPPENING OUT OF AFRICA RIGHT NOW AND THE LIGHT IS ON EVERYONE THERE… THIS IS DEDICATED TO AFRICA AND TO NIGERIA. THANK YOU.”
