Francine “FRAN” Vo, an Overwatch Twitch streamer and member of the Toronto Defiant, has said that she will no longer stream or play the game for which she is most known. They made their choice because of some opposition to NFTs.
After a tweet asserting that the #1 retail NFT was truly created by the Overwatch team, FRAN came under fire from some Overwatch fans who had criticized their own NFTs.
In a lengthy tweet from January 24, she apologized for the message and her response, calling the situation a “dumpster fire” and calling the incident.
Fran announced in the article that she would stop streaming and playing Overwatch, even if the eagerly awaited sequel, Overwatch 2, is eventually made available.
She acknowledged that she has difficulties with streaming, saying “Streaming isn’t as easy for me as it seems.”
Since my time at Franplayshalo, I’ve experienced harassment practically daily, whether it be strange DM messages about photographs that are ostensibly not consenting. Since my beauty has drawn so much attention, I feel incredibly insecure and have low self-esteem. It was difficult because of my intense loneliness and the bad habits I developed while streaming. I won’t even begin to discuss bullying. My entire sense of worth is determined by likes and statistics. I sincerely hope I never have to experience that again.
“I mentioned earlier on air that I was moving back home to take care of my parents,” she continued, “specifically my dad had a stroke and subsequent seizure, and that’s what I did/did.” After five years of “playing video games for a living,” I was able to rebuild my relationship with my family within a few months. Overwatch 2 won’t make me reconsider my answer to the question “Will I ever play Overwatch again?” Will I stream once more? Most likely not, she said. “I want to end this chapter and move on.”
