On Sunday, tragedy struck at Gröna Lund in Stockholm as a person lost their life and nine others were injured when a cart on the “Jetline” roller coaster derailed. Among those injured were both children and adults, all of whom were transported to a hospital for treatment. Annika Troselius, the information chief at Gröna Lund, expressed her shock and sadness at the unfortunate incident.

As a result of the recent accident, Gröna Lund will remain closed for at least a week, according to a press conference held by the company. Today is a day of mourning for Gröna Lund, and our condolences go out to the families of the victims and those affected by the tragedy. We are currently assisting the police with their investigation and conducting our own internal inquiry, says Jan Eriksson, the CEO of the amusement park.
Region Stockholm has announced that a total of nine individuals, both adults and children, were taken to the hospital for medical treatment following the accident. Although initially reported as three individuals in critical condition, it was later updated to only one being critically injured. Among those injured are three children, all with minor injuries.
According to both the fire department and Gröna Lund, the individuals purportedly fell from a carriage on a roller coaster after it derailed and became stuck at an incline. Additionally, numerous individuals were trapped on the roller coaster and required assistance from the fire department to be lowered to safety.
Numerous units from both the fire department and the police were alerted to Gröna Lund at 11:40 on Sunday. Additionally, an ambulance helicopter was dispatched to the scene, and the amusement park was evacuated immediately.
The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into causing another’s death, causing bodily harm, and creating danger for others.
As stated by Annika Troselius, the head of information for Gröna Lund, ensuring safety is the top priority for the company. Checks on the attractions are conducted every day, every week, and every month, by both independent inspectors and Gröna Lund staff.
“We would never open an attraction if we were not confident in its safety. That is why we share in your dismay over this incident,” she says and continues.
“This must not happen and it will not happen. All of us are deeply affected and stunned by this event, and our current focus is on attending to the needs of those impacted as well as our staff.
