Lacitrus Gholston obituary and dead, Fatal wreck south of Toccoa kills 1

A two-vehicle accident south of Toccoa this weekend left a Toccoa man dead and four others injured. Troopers with Georgia State Patrol Station 7 in Toccoa investigated a Friday night accident on GA 106/Mize Road at Old Mize Road.

According to the preliminary crash report, 33-year-old Lacitrus Gholston was traveling north on GA 106 at a “high rate of speed.” “While making a left turn, Mr. Golston lost control of the vehicle,” the report states.

The Charger entered the southbound lane and collided with a Ford SuperDuty pickup driven by Brian Caleb Phillips of Toccoa. After the impact, the pickup rolled over on its roof, slid and hit a traffic sign before coming to rest upright on the right side of the road. The Charger was parked uncontrolled on the right side of the road.

Phillips, 21, and the three passengers in the car suffered minor injuries. One of the passengers was a 15-year-old boy. Police did not release his name. They identified the other two passengers as Brooke Alyssa Phillips, 24, and Breelin S. Reece, 18, both of Toccoa.

Emergency crews transported all four passengers in the pickup truck to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with non-life-threatening injuries. While some local news outlets, citing family sources, said Goulston was fleeing law enforcement at the time of the crash, the state patrol commander investigating the crash said there was no active pursuit.

Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Commander Donnie Saddler told Now Habersham that Goulston was speeding and crossed a double yellow line. He said officers noticed this and turned around, but Goulston “never ran away”.
