    FLOWER

Lee Howington Death – Lester “Lee” Howington Jr. was one of the members of the close-knit Georgia Horseshoe Pitchers Association, and when they learnt of his loss, a gloomy mood descended upon them. Lee was more than simply a fellow pitcher; he was also a beloved friend, a cheery spirit, and a person whose personality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Only Lee’s infectious sense of humor rivaled his passion for horseshoe pitching. He would brighten the mood with his quips and humorous remarks whether he was on the field or just hanging out with pals after a match. His distinctive orange shorts were maybe even more recognizable than his sense of humor. The orange shorts became associated with Lee as a representation of his vivacious attitude and fearless way of living, garnering him the affectionate moniker “the guy in the orange shorts.”

Lee added a beloved component to the horseshoe clubs in addition to his wit and colorful attire: his fabled sign that stated, “real men under 80 pitch from 40.” It wasn’t just a declaration; it was also evidence of Lee’s unwavering devotion to the game and a subtly delivered message to everyone to embrace the thrill of pitching, regardless of age or skill.

In the Stone Mountain and Marietta Horseshoe Clubs, where he made enduring connections with his fellow pitchers, Lee was a well respected member. These groups became like a second family to him through cordial rivalries and shared experiences. And in the midst of the fun and friendship, Lee met Cookie, the love of his life. Together, they forged a lovely connection that represented the power of love and support that saw them through the years.

The Georgia Horseshoe Pitchers Association came together when word of Lee’s passing spread to assist his family during this trying time. Although plans for a memorial ceremony were still being made, Cookie Howington and the rest of the Howington family were already in the association’s thoughts and prayers.

All those who had the honor of knowing Lee are left with a vacuum in their hearts as a result of his passing. The pitches thrown, the stories spoken, and the smiles exchanged on the horseshoe courts will forever carry his memory. The orange shorts may no longer be seen on the field, but they still stand as a reminder of the happiness and humor Lee gave to the game he so much loved.

Lee’s absence will be felt in the next competitions and gatherings of the Georgia Horseshoe Pitchers Association, but his spirit will undoubtedly be there. Each horseshoe throw will serve as a remembrance of the man who emphasized the importance of the shared experience and camaraderie of like-minded individuals who were drawn together by a similar interest as well as the game itself.

Lester “Lee” Howington Jr. will ultimately be remembered for his love and humor he shared with his horseshoe throwing family as well as his amazing pitching abilities. Lee’s legacy will always serve as an inspiration to and a source of warmth for those who follow in his footsteps as they persevere.
