Matthew Perry Death; American-Canadian Actor Died at 54 From Acute Effects of Ketamine, Law Enforcement Investigating Cause of Death

Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54 due to the acute effects of ketamine, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner.

According to a law enforcement source, the investigation into Matthew Perry’s death is close to being concluded. Police are of the opinion that there are several individuals who should face charges.

According to the source, the final decision on whether or not to press charges will be made by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to provide a comment on Tuesday, June 25.

The beloved actor passed away on October 28th at the age of 54.
The cause of his death was determined to be accidental. A December autopsy report revealed that his cause of death was attributed to the acute effects of ketamine, along with other factors such as drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid use disorder.

According to a report by PEOPLE, the investigation into his death was concluded by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner in December. In May, the Los Angeles Police Department informed PEOPLE that they initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his overdose death following the release of the medical examiner’s report.

In May, a source from the LAPD informed PEOPLE that the department had collaborated with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. postal inspectors to determine the origin of the ketamine that caused Perry’s death. The law enforcement investigation started in December, following the medical examiner’s report.

PEOPLE’s inquiry to the DEA on June 25 went unanswered.

Perry was receiving ketamine infusion therapy at the time of his passing, as revealed by his autopsy. In his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he candidly shared the challenges he faced with addiction, providing a glimpse into his personal journey before his passing.

“I wanted to share the moment when I felt secure, free from succumbing to negative influences,” Perry shared with PEOPLE for a 2022 cover story. I had to wait until I was in a more stable state, free from the grip of alcoholism and addiction, before I could document everything. I was confident that it would be beneficial for others if I took action.
