The news that our close buddy Maurice Murphy had passed away over the weekend startled and saddened us. As he was a member of the Munster Squash committee, Maurice significantly impacted that group.
He was always a great sounding board, and you always paid attention to what he had to say when he spoke. Maurice took over the responsibilities of the junior secretary for a while while he was a committee member. Maurice spent a great amount of time on the committee. Maurice was the kind of person you turned to for guidance and who was always deserving of respect. He was the kind of person who led by example for the rest of us.
Maurice was a member of the Garda Sochána as well as a Thurles inhabitant. It was there that he and his wife, Ann Marie, brought up their children. He took his wife and daughter Ava along, and they all had a great day at the Thurles Squash Club. Maurice was the kind of father who was always accessible to offer their kids support and encouragement.
He supported her as she competed in numerous competitions over the years, initially representing the Munster region and then Ireland as a whole and Irish Squash. Everyone at Munster Squash will miss Maurice, but his family came first in his life. They came first to him in all he did. His entire family, including his wife Ann-Marie, children Sorcha, Chloe, and Ava, as well as his wife, will all miss him dearly. His larger family will likewise be sorely missed.
