Mike Boarland Death And Obituary – Good evening, American Legion Post 33 family members. We are profoundly saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Mike Boarland, a great American hero and a lifetime member of our post.

We will have a meeting to honor Mike’s life this coming Sunday, March 19, at three o’clock in the afternoon. The attendees are expected to bring a dish to share or their own particular favorite food, per the family’s wish. Please join the celebration as we honor Mike Boarland’s extraordinary life. Please know that Mike’s family is in our hearts and prayers, as well as our profound sympathies. Brother, you will be sadly missed till we cross paths again in Valhalla.

I appreciate all of your thoughtful remarks and encouraging thoughts. also everyone who has offered to help with the avalanche of paperwork that will unavoidably come after. Valerie and Vanessa, my daughters, have both contributed greatly to this effort. I also want to express my gratitude to everyone who visited him in his final days and hours. Sue, I sincerely apologize for the loss you’ve experienced. We had a great deal of respect and affection for Mike, and he had a special place in our hearts.

We are sorry to inform you that Neb’s health issues prevent us from being able to attend Mike’s memorial service at this time; nevertheless, please know that we will be praying for you both and thinking about all the good times we had together. To elaborate more on this post… An excerpt from a story that appeared in the Fort Greely Newspaper is provided below.

Boarland served in Vietnam for a total of 31 months over the course of three different tours in 1962, 1965, and 1968–1969. His final tour had to be cut short in 1969 due to injuries he sustained while on service. He served in the Army from 1957 to 1989, receiving three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars (one for bravery and one for meritorious service), and the Soldier’s Medal throughout that time.
