Born Gouranga Chakraborty on June 16, 1952, Mithun Chakraborty is an Indian actor, producer, and politician who predominantly appears in Hindi and Bengali films. He was a Rajya Sabha MP in the past. Three National Film Awards and three Film Awards were given to him for his work.
In 1976, Chakraborty made his acting debut in the independent drama Mrigayaa, for which he was nominated for his first National Film Award for Best Actor. In 1982’s Disco Dancer, which was a box office hit in both India and the Soviet Union and the first Indian movie to earn $100 billion, Chakraborty portrayed Jimmy. The total value of Mithun Chakraborty’s assets is close to $320 million (around INR 26.16 billion). In addition to his work in Disco Dancer, Chakraborty is well known for his parts in the movies Surakksha, Sahhas, Wardat, Wanted, Boxer, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Pyari Behna, Avinash, Dance Dance, Prem Pratigyaa, Mujrim, Agneepath, Yugandhar, The Don, and Jallaad. His performance as Krishnan Iyer Nariyal Paniwala in the motion picture “Agneepath” earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1991.
For his roles in Swami Vivekananda (1998) and Tahader Katha (1992), he went on to win two National Film Awards. More than 350 films, including Bengali, Hindi, Odia, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Punjabi[8], have Chakraborty in them. With 19 films released in 1989 as a starring actor, he holds the linka record, which has not been surpassed in Bollywood as of July 2022.
Monarch Group, owned by Chakraborty, works in the hospitality and education industries. Paparatzy Productions, a production firm, was also started by him. He established the Cinema and Television Artists Association (CINTAA) in 1992 along with Dilip Kumar and Sunil Dutt to aid struggling actors. Additionally, he serves as the Chairman of the Film Studios Setting & Allied Mazdoor Union, which looks out for the welfare of film industry employees and responds to their concerns. For his role as a Grandmaster on the television program Dance India Dance, Chakraborty has been listed in both the Linka World Records and the Guinness Book of World Records.
