On Tuesday, November 15, former US President Donald Trump made his third bid for the presidency, making him the first Republican to do so.

Regarding recent Republican party resentment over the GOP’s struggles in the midterm elections as well as criticism over the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, Trump disregarded both.

Nearly two years before the November 2024 presidential elections and after publicly toying with a pre-midterm entry during the summer, Trump, 76, officially announced his campaign in Palm Beach, Florida.

Just before he spoke, formal documents establishing the “Donald J. Trump for President 2024” campaign committee were submitted to the Federal Election Commission.

Trump addressed a packed ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago club, saying, “I am tonight launching my campaign for President of the United States in order to make America great and glorious again.” We shall be fighting the most crooked powers and powerful interests at once, together.

The twice-impeached former president spoke of “blood-soaked” American streets and claimed that the nation is “becoming destroyed” in his speech.

Trump made the erroneous claim that China actively influenced the outcome of his contest with President Biden in 2020. After Trump declared his candidacy, the speech was cut off by the television networks.

“Our country is in a horrible state — we’re in grave trouble,” Trump said. “This is not a task for a politician or a conventional candidate. This is a task for a great movement.”

During the speech, Biden responded with a tweet that said “Donald Trump failed America.” The post included a video highlighting Trump’s central role in erasing federal abortion rights and inspiring the mob that laid waste to the Capitol.

The timing of his 2024 announcement is exceptionally early. Most candidates for the White House launch their campaigns within a year before the election.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is seen as the best-positioned Republican to contest against Trump while Trump’s vice president, Mike Pence, is another possible contender.

Trump won almost 140 million votes in two presidential general elections, and remains a formidable force in American politics despite losing his social media accounts, and several investigations led by Democrats.
