UK Court Moves Ekweremadu’s Trial To Jan 2023

Ike Ekweremadu’s trial has been rescheduled by the Central Criminal Court in London, United Kingdom, from May 2023 to January 31, 2023.

The Old Bailey agreed that before the trial’s start in January 2022, arguments will be heard on either December 16 or December 19.

On June 23, this year, the former vice president of the Senate and his wife Beatrice were detained and charged with conspiring to trade a person for the purpose of harvesting organs in violation of the Modern Slavery Act of 2015. For his sick daughter, Ekweremadu has been looking for a kidney donor.

He didn’t appear in court on Monday, but his wife, who had been granted bail in July, and their daughter Sonia were.

Following an ex-parte motion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja ordered the interim forfeiture of Ekweremadu’s assets last week (EFCC).
