Noel Kinsella, a Saint John, New Brunswick native, was declared deceased today, Wednesday, December 6, 2023. He passed away at 84 years old. Noel Kinsella’s cause of death was not disclosed.

Kinsella was born in New Brunswick’s Saint John.
He completed his undergraduate studies at University College in Dublin, Ireland, where he graduated with a BA in psychology. His academic home was the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas Angelicum in Rome, where he graduated in 1965 with a PhD and a doctor of law.
His doctoral dissertation, “Toward a Theory of Personality Development: A Study of the Works of Erik H. Erikson,” showcased his extensive understanding of the field.
He pursued his studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he strengthened his dedication to learning by gaining a S.T.L. and a S.T.D. He was a professor at St. Thomas University before becoming a member of the Board of Governors after 41 years of dedicated service. One of his many noteworthy accomplishments was serving as the Atlantic Human Rights Center’s chair.
Career of Noel Kinsella
Kinsella was appointed by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney on September 12, 1990, as a senator from New Brunswick to the Senate of Canada. He became a member of the majority of the Tory caucus when he joined the group of Conservative senators in 2004.
Kinsella served as Senate Deputy Leader of the Opposition from 1999 until October 1, 2004, and as Opposition Whip from 1994 to 1999. After that, he was appointed Senate Opposition Leader. On February 8, 2006, he was appointed Senate Speaker by Governor General at the request of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
During the parliament, Kinsella used French. He gave up his position as Speaker on November 26, 2014, two days before he was forced to retire from the Senate at the age of 75. Red Tory Kinsella backed Peter MacKay’s bid for the Progressive Conservative Party leadership in 2003.
Awards and honors
In December 2008, Kinsella was made an honorary captain in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Kinsella was admitted as a member of the Canadian Queen’s Privy Council on February 23, 2015. He now has lifetime access to “The Honourable” and “PC.”
