Speaker David Ralston, the 73rd Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, passed away today after a protracted illness. He was 68 years old.
His loyal wife Sheree, their children, and other family members accompanied him as he left.
At the time of his passing, Speaker Ralston was the state house speaker with the longest tenure in the country. He represented Georgia’s 7th House District, which included Fannin, Gilmer, and Dawson County.
In accordance with the Georgia State Constitution, Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones (R-Milton) has taken over as the 74th Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives for the remainder of the term, which ends in January.
