We share the heartbreaking news of Ray Sawada’s untimely death with deep sadness and heavy hearts. Ray died in the night of April 10, 2023, while playing his favorite game, at the age of 38. He is survived by his beloved wife Nicole, two young and amazing kids, Victoria, 9, and Charlotte, 6, as well as family and friends who are supportive, devoted, and faithful.
Ray was born and raised in Richmond. He was a dedicated Burnaby firefighter. He joined Burnaby Fire in 2017 and has since been an essential component of the department, serving with distinction and pride.
Ray shines a brilliant light in the lives of everyone he touches. He enjoys going on vacation with Nicole, the girls, relatives, and friends. He is a superb hockey player who also coaches his daughters. Ray’s passion and dedication in all he does will leave a vacuum in the communities around him.
The loss of their father and husband will leave a painful impact on the girls’ and Nicole’s hearts, and there is still a long way to go. We greatly appreciate our family’s love and support. Every message and act of compassion is appreciated. We sense love. It gives us comfort to know that so many people love and care for this family during this sad and difficult time.
Nicole and the daughters will have a brighter future if you are willing to support Nicole in her grief while she is on unpaid leave. We thank you in advance and are grateful for the outpouring of love and care that has followed his death.
