Reaffirm your commitment to morals and values - NUJ President to Journalists

Chris Isiguzo, president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has given media professionals across the nation the assignment to recommit to the ethics of the writing profession.

At the Kogi Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)’s Grand Finale of the 2023 Press Week on Wednesday in Lokoja, Isiguzo made this announcement.

He cautioned media professionals to uphold the legacy of those who had previously practised journalism and added that it was important to rewrite Nigerian society’s story with honesty, bravery, and a commitment to greatness.

He urged everyone to “embrace the spirit of inquiry, the pursuit of truth, and the unrelenting pursuit of transparency and accountability.”

Adeiza Momoh Jimoh, the NUJ’s local leader in Kogi State, was praised by the speaker for encouraging quality, encouraging growth, and upholding the highest standards in journalism.

“Alhaji Adeiza Momoh Jimoh’s tenure has been distinguished by an unshakable drive to establish a more unified and dynamic union, pushing for the welfare and professional growth of Kogi State’s journalists.

“His initiatives to create an inclusive culture where all journalists’ perspectives are heard and valued have led to a stronger and more unified union.

The council has carried out effective community involvement activities, undertaken capacity-building programmes, and made sure that the rights and dignity of journalists are upheld under his leadership.

The NUJ President remarked during the book’s inauguration that “Media Development in Kogi State, 1999-2023” is a unique literary work that chronicles the development of media in the state over a twenty-four-year period.

Isiguzo continued, “These pages are not merely narratives; they include the collective wisdom, thoughts, and experiences of generations of journalists who have tenaciously sought the truth, dared to question accepted wisdom, and worked to create a society that is more open and responsible.

“As journalists, we have a huge responsibility in a society where information is limitless and news stories spread at the speed of light. Our commitment to the public is to report with accuracy, fairness, and courage. This pledge underlines the significance of our role in influencing public conversation, legislation, and social change. The narrative of our society is woven together by the tales we tell, the problems we bring to light, and the voices we elevate.

Launching the book “Media Development in Kogi State, 1999-2023” is a monument to the Kogi State Council’s relentless efforts to preserve our community’s past, honour our accomplishments, and prepare the road for a better future under the direction of Alhaji Adeiza Momoh Jimoh.

The change of the media in Kogi State is chronicled in this book, which is also a tribute to the journalists who have committed their lives to serving the public.
