It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Holmes, on Tuesday October 29, 2024, at the Moncton Hospital from an unexpected brief illness.
Though sometimes a man of few words, Bob spoke volumes through his actions, care and unwavering commitment to those he loved. Bob is survived by his wife Irene, his children Mark (Jenn), Jonathan (Nikki), Melissa, Jillian (Serge), Chantel; grandchildren, Hannah, Melia, Olivia, Thomas, Calleb, Hugo, Jensen and his dog and walking companion, Rosie.
Bob was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. He enjoyed sharing his wisdom and never missed an opportunity to share stories, laughter, and love with his family. He was their biggest supporter and a constant source of joy.
Bob was not only passionate restauranteur, but his legacy in Moncton began with Papa Joe’s, the city’s first steakhouse. Most notably Skipper Jack’s Restaurant which he built alongside his son Jonathan. Bob took immense pride in every detail of the restaurant experience from greeting guests personally to ensuring flawless service. Making people feel welcome and cared for was not just part of the job for Bob, it was his way of life. He retired from Corrections Canada several years ago.
In addition to his parents George and Mary Holmes he was predeceased by his brother George.
Family and friends are invited to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton (506-858-1995) for a celebration of Bob’s life on Sunday November 3, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to PAW (formerly Greater Moncton SPCA) or The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Moncton or donation of choice.
