Samie Lott Death – Mrs. Samie Louise Klose Lott, 74, bravely fought a protracted illness with her family at her side until dying on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. Samie was born on February 4, 1949, in Williamsport, PA, to Sergeant Major Samuel Blair Klose (dead) of Altona, PA, and Louise Allen Stovall Klose (deceased) of Fredericksburg, VA.
On August 19, 1972, she married Kenneth Orville Lott in the MCSC Chapel in Albany, GA. Among her close relatives were cousins Isabel Stovall Negron (Jamie), Jay Henry Klose (Patricia), and Kay Klose Quitko. Samie dedicated her life to education and retired in 2004 after 31 years of service. She was honored for her exceptional accomplishments in 2000 when she was selected Forrest Road Elementary’s Teacher of the Year.
From 1990 until 2004, she was employed by the Muscogee County School District as a Special Education teacher and an Instructional Technology Specialist. Before this, Samie had a diversified career that included positions as a middle and high school teacher, an educational consultant for three RESAs, and the director of the Chattahoochee-Flint Regional Assessment Center for Performance-Based Certification (RAC).
After retirement, Samie kept teaching by supervising student teachers at Columbus State University who were working for their special education certification. Samie actively participated in the St. Anne parish and was a devoted Catholic. She participated actively in the Council of Catholic Women, the Rosary Group, and the Eucharistic Ministry. Apart from her faith, Samie actively participated in other historical associations, such as the Jamestowne Society.
the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, and Alpha Delta Kappa (including the Alpha Chi and Beta Theta chapters). Samie began her education at Dougherty High School in Albany, Georgia, where she graduated with honors in 1967. She completed her education studies at Valdosta State University, where she graduated with a BA in 1971, an M.Ed. in 1972, and an Ed.S. in 1976.
Father Scott Winchell will preside over a Celebration of Life Mass Service in honor of Samie Lott at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Circle, Columbus, GA 31907, on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM. The interment will take place at Parkhill Cemetery after the service. The family would prefer that donations to a charity of your choice be given in Samie’s honor rather than flowers. My sincerest sympathy are with her.
