At a recent concert at London’s O2 Arena, SZA admitted that her ex-boyfriend had once cheated on her. She discussed the event and the reasons it made it difficult for her to appreciate London before starting her song, “Nobody Gets Me,” in her pre-performance interview.
SZA opened her narrative as the audience responded, “I never told anybody but, my boyfriend cheated on me in this city before.” “It was awful. I was genuinely upset to come here for that reason, but you guys made me feel better. I’m grateful.
SZA’s “SOS Tour”
SZA said, “This song is about my other trash ex-boyfriend,” before starting “Nobody Gets Me.” The song, the fourth single from SZA’s second studio album, is one of the artist’s personal favorites. When she made an appearance on Hot 97 last year, she talked about how the song is about her ex-fiance and the disputes they had before to their breakup.
At the time, she said, “This specific song is a narrative about my ex-fiancé and how we went through all these conflicts and broke up. And when we first split up, it was awful, and I thought I was destined to spend the rest of my life in torment because no one could ever understand me the way he could. The tales I relate in that song about our disagreements… The focus of that is that. Many people don’t seem to understand me, but that’s okay.
