Ojibway, a native of Crooked Lake, Ontario, has played a variety of roles during his literary career, including acting as artistic director for Native Earth Performing Arts, Canada’s premier Indigenous theatrical group, and doing stand-up at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He has received accolades for his work as a dramatist, journalist/columnist (he frequently contributes to a number of Canadian newspapers and publications), short story and novel author, television scriptwriter, and producer of various documentaries about the experience of Aboriginal people. He co-created The Finding for the CBC, an investigation of Germany’s infatuation with Native American culture, and wrote and directed The Redskins, The Magician, and the Puppy Stew, a documentary about Native American humor for the National Film Board of Canada. A documentary about the battle between indigenous and non-indigenous land and water issues, COTTAGERS AND INDIANS, was released two years later. The practice of non-Indigenous persons claiming ancestral ties to the Aboriginal people was the subject of a recent episode of THE PRETENDIANS.
The third season of its APTN documentary series, Going Native, will start filming this fall and travel to the Yucatan Peninsula, New Zealand, Australia, and the Arctic.
