In the 2017 general election in New Zealand, Kerekere ran for the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand in the Ikaroa-Rwhiti district.
With 1,924 votes, she finished third out of three contenders. In 2020, Kerekere, who is tenth on their party list, will run for the Green Party once more, this time in the Ikaroa-Rwhiti district.
