In the backseat of a police cruiser earlier this year, a 12-year-old Oklahoma girl sobbedly confessed to officers: “I don’t know why I did that” while her 9-year-old brother was being detained for being detained. They were stabbed to death and later confessed to the murder.
According to Tulsa police, the deadly incident occurred on January 5 just before midnight in an apartment close to St. Thomas’ Place in the city. Following the stabbings of a 9-year-old boy and his 12-year-old sister by Tulsa police officers, Law&Crime this week obtained exclusive body camera footage.
According to a police report from January 6, “officers learned the parents were upstairs sleeping when the 12-year-old daughter woke them up and said she had stabbed her 9-year-old brother.”
An unidentified 12-year-old girl descends the stairs at the beginning of the video. She sobbed, “I’m sorry,” through her sobs. “Sorry, sorry.” After being transferred to the hospital for surgery, Zander Lyda passed away from his wounds at around 2.30 am the following morning.
The two kids’ testimonies were posted as part of the GoFundMe effort for the stunned family, which was organized by a friend who misses her sister April Lyda.
Jennifer Antamadon wrote at the event, “Your daughter is a well-behaved child with no prior behavioral issues. “Xander, her kid, is the prettiest boy with the biggest smile. He enjoys playing Fortnite, riding his bike, hanging out with his best friends, and doing chores with his mother. His favorite locations to visit include the Sky Zone, amazing pizza, and the Children’s Museum. He enjoys traveling with his family and spending time with his father and grandmother. Pizza with cheese, tacos, and chocolate ice cream are some of his favorite foods. He was a wonderful son who obeyed orders without question, wanted to please his mother, and adored his sister and brother. He will be sorely missed.
As the video goes on, the 12-year-old girl in handcuffs ultimately directs authorities to the knife that was used in the assault. She said that after finishing, she flung it out the second-floor window.
April Lyda returned and flung her hands up frantically at the door, her daughter said, “You used a knife?”
The 12-year-old replied, “I’m so damn sorry mom.” I’m sorry, I have no idea what occurred.
