We regret to inform you of the death of Ashleigh VanHorn, a cherished student at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown. Ashleigh died suddenly on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of 21 due to a severe heart attack.
Ashleigh played over 50 games for the Pitt-Greensburg girls’ soccer team as a talented and accomplished midfielder. She’s also a diligent worker and quick learner who is constantly striving to develop both on and off the field. Ashleigh studied Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she was well-liked and regarded by her classmates and professors.
Ashleigh was born and reared in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Hempfield Regional High School. She won four years of football and was awarded to the All-Team First Team. She is also a part of the Beadling Soccer Club, who won the State Cup and advanced to the Regional Championship finals in 2019.
Ashleigh will be remembered as a kind, sociable, and courteous person who loved and respected everyone equally. She is a football fan who enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her untimely demise left a huge vacuum in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
Greensburg, Pennsylvania is where Ashleigh was born and reared. She attended Hempfield Regional High School and worked as a football messenger for four years. She was named to the first team and a part of the State Cup-winning Beadling Football Club while at Hempfield, and she was a finalist in the 2019 Regional Championships.
Ashley continues to succeed on and off the field at Pitt-Johnstown. In 2021, she appeared in 17 games, recorded one assist and one point, and scored two goals at the same time. She studied Business Administration and is described as brilliant, driven, and ambitious by her family and friends, who are constantly eager to learn and progress.
The tragic passing of Ashleigh has left a vacuum in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family and friends were shocked and saddened by her premature passing. They remembered her as a gentle, compassionate, and gregarious person who treated everyone with dignity and respect.
Ashley is also remembered by the Pitt Green Girls Soccer Team as a valuable player who was always eager to go above and beyond for her teammates. “It has been a privilege to coach Ashley, and she has always been willing to do whatever it takes to help her team,” stated head coach Sarah Larson. “We will miss them both on and off the pitch.”
The death of Ashleigh VanHorn serves as a reminder of how precious life is and the value of cherishing every minute with those you care about. Her legacy and the many people she touched will live on in her memory. Ashley Van Horn, please rest in peace.
