Deon Patterson shooter
Atlanta police have confirmed that a gunman opened fire on a hospital, killing one person and wounding four others, one of whom sources said was his mother.
Officials identified the suspect as 24-year-old Deion Patterson and warned the public not to approach him. Three victims are currently in critical condition and two are undergoing surgery by trauma surgeons. One of the victims in the shooting was the shooter’s mother, sources said, WSB-TV reported. According to CNN, he visited the medical facility with his mother, who is a police assistant, and became “angry” in the lobby during the trip.
Police were called to Northside Medical Hospital Midtown on West Peachtree Street at 12:30 p.m. following reports of an active gunman inside a building. Police confirmed that four people were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment and one was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials continue to search for more victims.
Authorities said they were actively searching for the suspect they knew, saying he was “armed and dangerous”. They confirmed they were aware of the carjacking shortly after the shooting and were working to locate the vehicle.
Court documents reviewed by DailyM show Patterson was fined $266.50 in 2020 and a traffic fine in 2020 in May 2020 for a complaint for driving loudly in a restricted area. Authorities released photos of the suspected shooter, who remains at large. A still image from surveillance video shows a man wearing a mask and carrying a bag in front of him, pointing a gun at what appears to be the reception area.
Another photo shows him wearing a dark hoodie, without a mask, in an elevator with the hoodie on. No arrests have been made so far. Officials warned anyone who saw the suspect to call 911, saying he was “armed and dangerous.” Police were called to Northside Medical Midtown on West Peachtree Street after reports of an active gunman inside the building
