He earned his Bachelor of Medicine from the Bangalore Medical College, where he graduated in 1978. He finished his ophthalmology residency program at Bangalore Medical College’s Minto Eye Hospital in 1982. He established an ophthalmology clinic in a little clinic in the 1980s. He is passionate about advancement and has a vision for growth, future demands, and progress. The hospital relocated to its current site in October 1993. The first eye clinic evolved into a multi-specialty eye clinic and began to expand annually.
Modern, sophisticated technology was obtained to accommodate the rising need for high-quality eye care. He is in charge of making Narayana Nethralaya the largest super-specialty eye hospital in Karnataka and aggressively promotes the development of the hospital’s sub-specialties. He has practiced phacoemulsification and cataract surgery. He serves as the organization’s head.
We welcome Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital, in this Masterclass by Dr. Kamini Rao. Dr. Shetty also received the Times Healthcare Achievement Award 2018 and the coveted Rajyotsava Award for “Legend of Ophthalmology” in 2010.
In a village close to Kundapur, where his father owned a Kirana company, Dr. Bhujang was born. He came from very little. Later, Dr. Shetty relocated to Bangalore to finish his academic studies. He recalled his earliest years at Baldwin Boys High School by saying, “Baldwin put me in first grade at 10.” He continued by discussing cultural shock and other topics. We can see the outcome of his efforts in Narayana Nethralaya, which was previously only an eye clinic, even though he said, “I was a wrong doctor…”
