According to a CNN count, Monday’s attack was the 19th school or college shooting in 2023 to result in at least one injury and the bloodiest shooting at a U.S. campus in almost a year.

In a statement, Covenant School, a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church, thanked first responders for their swift action and those who support the school and said, “Our community is heartbroken.”
Police in Nashville have named six victims in a shooting at an elementary school.
The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department said that three kids and three staff members were shot and killed at Covenant School in the state’s capital on Monday morning. About 209 pupils attend the private Christian school Covenant School, which has between 40 and 50 staff members and is open to students in preschool through sixth grade.
Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9, Michael Hill, 61, William Kinney, 9, Catherine Coons, 60, Cynthia Peake, 61, and Harley Scruggs, 9, are the victims, according to the police.
“We lament the tragic loss and are horrified by the atrocities that devastated our church and school. We are committed to showing love to our families, parents, staff, and students while also starting the healing process, the school added.
In a video statement made available Tuesday night, Governor Bill Lee claimed that “the entire state of Tennessee was harmed yesterday.”
