Peaches Christ announced the terrible news of Heklina’s passing moments ago on social media.
As stated in a PEACHES Facebook post:
I have to break this news to you with shock and horror. Please excuse me if I don’t have all the answers right now; I’m now living a true nightmare. I discovered my wonderful friend Heklina dead when I arrived in London, UK, this morning to pick her up after we appeared together on the Mommie Queerest show. The exact reason of death is yet unknown. I’m devastated and I realize that this is shocking news, but I feel compelled to let others know what happened. Heklina is not just my closest friend, but she is also adored in our neighborhood. I’m a mess. In light of this issue, kindly refrain from contacting me because I’m distraught, shocked, and preoccupied with what to do next. I’ll get back to you.
The story will be followed as it progresses. Legendary punk drag pioneer Heklina was responsible for starting the 20-year-old Tr*nnyshack, which subsequently became Mother. Heklina frequents her Golden Girls Live! and other goofy theatrical productions from her home in Palm Springs.
Heklina, a veteran drag artist who gained notoriety in the 1990s and appeared on the eccentric and long-running drag show Trannyshack (later Mom) before helping to found the SoMa drag club Oasis, has apparently passed away in London.
Heklina co-starred alongside San Francisco drag veteran Peaches Christ, aka Joshua Grannell, in the drag parody Mommie Queerest at the Soho theater. On Monday, Grannell wrote on Facebook that he was going to pick up Herculina from her location but discovered she had passed away.
On Peaches Christ’s and his own pages, Grannell posted, “I know this is startling news and I’m devastated, but I want everyone to know what occurred. Heklina is not just my closest friend, but she is also adored in our neighborhood. I’m in disarray.
