Bhubaneswar: The Twin Cities Police Department today arrested three people for allegedly abusing and threatening Subhashree Nayak of the Mahila Police Station. The defendants are Kuna Chandra Sahu (23), Pradeep Behera (35) and Aravinda Mahakud (28). They are all professional drivers. An SUV was confiscated from the property of the three defendants.
Nayak has lodged a complaint with the Saheed Nagar Police in this regard and a case has been registered under Sections 341, 294, 506 and 34 of the IPC. Nayak was driving home after work at around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, the complaint said. The vehicle was approached by men in an SUV as she walked along Science Park Street to the dormitory near the police reserve office.
When they started swearing at Nayak and gave chase to her car, she quickly drove it to the back door of the backup police office. Upon entering the scene, a man in the SUV brandished a knife and threatened officers with killing them.
However, Nayak managed to reach their residence safely. Initial police investigations revealed that Nayak did not know the defendant and was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the murder.
In particular, during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, Nayak was praised by superstar Chiranjeevi for feeding an elderly woman and alerting her to the virus while working as a deputy inspector at the Malkangiri Police Station.
